Organization Overview

STEM for Her engages girls and young women through a variety of initiatives. WIT’s Girls in Technology (GIT) program has been featured as a signature program by STEM for Her since it’s inception. GIT members have created amazing programs showcasing how girls in grades 6 through 12 can prepare themselves for careers in STEM fields. Program speakers, mentors and committee members volunteer their time to make a difference in the lives of our future generation.

Program Description and Results

Through a series of five monthly sessions, GIT’s Mentor-Protégé program introduced high school girls to STEM-focused leadership development, networking and public speaking activities. Programs were held at Microsoft in Reston, Virginia, Johns Hopkins University in Montgomery County, Maryland, and expanded for the first time into Washington, D.C., where sessions were hosted at the Marian Koshland Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences. Over 200 girls benefited from mentoring in STEM topics via the 2016 GIT Mentor-Protégé program!
